Breastfeed row as mum is told to leave Costa

- Daily Mail Reporter

A TEACHER has vowed to boycott Costa Coffee after they asked her to leave while breastfeeding her baby because she hadn’t purchased a drink.

Kaley Louise Riley, 29, claims she was kicked out of Costa Coffee in Penzance, Cornwall, for not buying anything before sitting down to feed her child.

Mrs Riley, from Newark, Nottinghamshire, said she fed her daughter Scarlett first as her ‘shrill tones would have sent customers flying’ otherwise.

A member of staff reportedly asked her to leave if she was not planning on buying anything.

When Mrs Riley complained to Costa online, they defended the employee and advised her to speak to a manager before sit- ting down next time. Mrs Riley wrote online: ‘Scarlett’s pram had broken, it was pouring, and she was very hungry. I spotted Costa and went in.

‘The queue was huge and I wanted to settle her, so just took a seat in a corner and breastfed her. I had every intention, once she calmed, to buy my favourite chai latte.’

Her post was shared, liked and commented on over 125 times.

In their reply, Costa Coffee said it was at ‘the manager’s discretion whether or not staying in the store without a purchase is possible’. The row divided opinion online, with some expressing support for Mrs Riley but others writing: ‘Buy something or get out.’
