End of road for coach trips if talks break down?

-

BUS and coach trips to Europe could be severely curtailed if Britain leaves the EU without a deal, the Government warned yesterday.

The current ‘Community Licence’ that operators rely on for journeys to the Continent and for bus tours would no longer be valid.

The UK could apply to join a separate agreement, Interbus, which would allow ‘occasional’ services to EU countries on March 29 next year.

The worst-case scenarios are set out in the latest batch of Government guidance about planning for leaving the EU without a deal.

Pet owners would also face a fourmonth wait if they want to take their animals to the EU, the papers warn.

They would need to prove their pets were free of rabies – which could involve a vaccination followed by at least a 30-day wait before a subsequent blood test, which itself is then followed by a three-month waiting period before travel.

And British and European airlines would lose the automatic right to fly to each other’s countries, according to latest no-deal Brexit documents.

Haulage chiefs also warned lorries might not be able to enter the EU through Dover, Britain’s biggest port – meaning perishable goods could rot in tailbacks. But the warnings were dismissed by Brexiteers, who suspect Whitehall of ratcheting up Project Fear.
