Fraudster who spent cash at Ann Summers

- By Arthur Martin

A FINANCE manager in charge of the public fund for Grenfell survivors spent some of the cash in lingerie shop Ann Summers, a court heard yesterday.

Jenny McDonagh, who was recruited by Kensington and Chelsea Council last October to help victims rebuild their lives, stole £62,000 from their fund. She used the cash for luxury holidays to Dubai, Los Angeles, Paris and Iceland.

Over ten months, McDonagh, 39, also lost £16,000 in online gambling.

She spent ‘considerable sums’ in high street shops, including £350 in Marks & Spencer, £300 in Uniqlo and £48 in Ann Summers. About £50,000 of the cash she stole was put on a card set up for survivor Edward Daffarn. When he asked the council to put money in his bank account, she kept the cash for herself.

McDonagh, of Abbey Wood, southeast London, pleaded guilty to two offences of fraud, one of theft and one of money laundering last month. Yesterday, she also pleaded guilty to defrauding the NHS out of £35,000 when she worked for the Medway Foundation Trust in Kent.

She will be sentenced today.
