EVERTON SUSPEND TOP SCOUT
EVERTON have suspended their longserving head of academy recruitment Martin Waldron. As revealed on Mail
Online last night, club staff were told earlier this week following the news that the Premier League are looking at alleged breaches of the rules over approaching young players. Everton are alleged to have tapped up a young player at Cardiff City. A letter received by the Premier League alleges that Waldron approached the boy and his family when he was around 11 or 12. The boy never moved to the Merseyside club and is now at Manchester United. Waldron has been with Everton for 23 years, initially as a scout. Everton sources told
Sportsmail that Waldron’s suspension does not imply guilt. However, it is believed that the club view the situation as so sensitive that they have advised Waldron not to speak to anyone from his own department while the investigation continues. Last night Waldron put the phone down when asked to comment. Everton said they did not wish to add to a statement released last week that said they would co-operate fully with the Premier League inquiry. The club are already being investigated by the League for an alleged illegal approach to manager Marco Silva while he was boss at Watford. Meanwhile, Colombia defender Yerry Mina continues to wait for his Everton debut. The £27million summer signing from Barcelona misses today’s home league match with Fulham after his left foot was stamped on in training. Boss Silva hopes that Mina, who was already recovering from an injury to his right foot, will be back in training next week.
