Lower drink drive limit has ‘no impact’
CUTTING the drink-drive limit has failed to reduce accident numbers, researchers claim.
Scotland’s limit was slashed to 50mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood in 2014. It remains 80mg in the rest of the UK.
But the University of Strathclyde’s Business School found there has been no impact on accident or fatality rates.
Neil Greig, of safety charity IAM RoadSmart, said: ‘The law-ignoring minority have carried on as before.’
A Scottish Government spokesman said: ‘We estimate that reducing the drink-drive limit will save between three and 17 lives each year.’
