tO Be fertile after you stop taking the Pill: two days THE fact that women can become pregnant after missing one or two doses shows how fast the effects of the Pill can be reversed.

‘But, on average, most women ovulate within one month of stopping the Pill, then have the same chance of pregnancy as any other woman of the same age,’ says Dr Diana Mansour, a consultant in community gynaecolog­y and reproducti­ve health at Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Trust.

‘In the Fifties, an early version of the Pill was used to “rest the ovaries” for a few months in women who found it difficult to conceive, as it was found to increase the chance of conception.’

Most other forms of contracept­ive also reverse rapidly. The exception is the contracept­ive injection, which may stop ovulation for five to six months.
