Rugby duo inspired by Euro stars
RUGBY’S Sue Jones and Deb Harrad have described reaching the Grand Finals as their equivalent of competing at the Ryder Cup. Just like Team Europe, the Warwickshire duo are proving to be specialists at the alternative-shot format, winning seven knockout rounds to book their place at Marriott St Pierre in two weeks. Their latest victory saw them sweep past Ann Nicholls and Karen Trevor from Peterborough Milton with a comfortable 5&4 victory at home. Harrad, 57, said: ‘This is my best achievement. It feels like we’re real players. It’s like a mini Ryder Cup.’ Jones, 59, added: ‘We’re thrilled and we’ve been glued to the telly watching the Ryder Cup, hoping to pick up some tips.’ It is the furthest any pair from the club has gone and Harrad admitted: ‘It was just a relief to get through. Anything else now will be a bonus.’
