Goldman asks for your salary

-

SAVERS who apply for the new Marcus by Goldman Sachs account are being asked for details of their salary and their occupation.

Banks are not required to ask for these details by rules laid down by the Financial Conduct Authority.

Anna Bowes, of advice website Savings Champion, says: ‘Asking for your salary is not a standard question for verifying your identity — although some banks do so.

‘It’s a shame Goldman Sachs has added unnecessary questions to its application, as some could feel this is sensitive information.’

A Goldman Sachs spokesman says: ‘The information we gather forms part of our anti-money laundering controls. The process is outlined online in our privacy policy.’
