Jodie the diversity Doctor

-

LIKE millions, I tuned in to see Jodie Whittaker make history as the first female Doctor Who. And she did not disappoint: her Doctor (pictured) was fizzing with raw energy and mischievous delight.

But did the BBC really have to make the script so self-consciously ‘woke’? ‘We can honour who we’ve been and choose who we want to be next,’ said the Doctor, in her carefully selected regional accent, while her new (disabled, he has dyspraxia) companion gazed on adoringly.

Yes, Auntie, we get it: you are very committed to diversity. But in future, can you please not let it get in the way of the plot?
