How Andrew got guests giggling

PRINCE Andrew’s reception speech had guests in stitches – with the highlight a story about a mix-up between his dog and Eugenie’s husband.

The duke said he once shouted at the family pet, also named Jack, to get off a chair – only to be startled when Mr Brooksbank leapt to his feet.

As the guests sipped Pol Roger champagne at Windsor Castle, Andrew revealed that despite his 22 years in the Royal Navy, he didn’t realise how untidy his two daughters could be.

Dr Anthony Wallersteiner, Jack’s head at Stowe School, said: ‘He thought he knew how to keep a ship in good shape but nothing could prepare him for cleaning up the endless Barbie dolls and mess.

‘He said he didn’t realise Ken and Barbie’s relationship was so complex. And he didn’t realise first that Barbie had quite so many outfits and secondly that Ken didn’t seem to have any clothes at all.’

Prince Andrew also spoke of his daughter’s love for Winnie the Pooh.

One courtier, who has worked for the royal family for 20 years, was brought to tears when the Duke of York publicly embraced his new son-in-law.

‘He said, “I’m going to do something I’ve never done before” then turned and hugged Jack. I got a tear in my eye at that point,’ the courtier said.
