Chef works Xmas despite £1m win
A SINGLE father won £1million on a scratchcard – but still turned up for his shift as a pub chef on Christmas Day.
Didzis Pirags, 36, scooped the prize on the Merry Millions Instant Win online during his lunch break last Saturday.
The Latvian- born kitchen boss, who has a five-year-old son and works 60 hours a week, called it ‘a dream come true’.
But he insisted on clocking in on Wednesday and Boxing Day. He said yesterday: ‘I still need to finish my shifts.’
Mr Pirags pays for a nanny to look after his son and lives above the pub where he works in Broughton, Preston.
He is buying a £280,000 house with the winnings and will find a job that allows him more time with his son. He said he did not spoil the boy at Christmas but got him an extra present of headphones.
