50k a day arriving here... but how many are sick?

-

TENS of thousands of travellers from across the world are coming to Britain every day as the lockdown eases, it emerged yesterday. But it is not known how many may be carrying the virus.

Home Secretary Priti Patel told MPs there were 50,000 arrivals a day on average.

Last year Britain had 145 million arrivals – an average of 380,000 a day – but this fell by 99 per cent at the height of the pandemic. Miss Patel said she didn’t know how many passengers now coming to Britain may be carrying the virus.

Only one person has been fined for breaching the quarantine rules after arriving from abroad, the Home Secretary told MPs.

The 14-day self-isolation policy for UK arrivals, bar a handful of exemptions, came in on June 8, with breaches punishable by fines of between £100 and £1,000.
