Gran who acts as carer to UK hubby of 27 years is de­ported

A GRAN has been de­ported de­spite be­ing mar­ried to a Brit for 27 years and act­ing as his full-time carer. Irene Clen­nell, 53, was sent back to Singapore with just £12 af­ter of­fi­cials ruled she broke im­mi­gra­tion rules. Ill hus­band John, 50, said: “It seemed so ridicu­lous that it couldn’t hap­pen. But it has.” Irene got in­def­i­nite leave to stay af­ter mar­ry­ing John in 1990. KICKED OUT Irene Clen­nell They have sons John, 26, and Sonny, 24, and grandaugh­ter Alana, one. But af­ter Irene of Ous­ton, Co Durham, re­turned to Singapore to care for her dy­ing par­ents, of­fi­cials in­sisted she stayed too long and re­voked her rights. Sup­port­ers have raised £35,000 for a fight to bring her home. The Home Of­fice said: “We expect those with no le­gal right to re­main here to leave.” But Lib Dem Brian Pad­dick branded the im­mi­gra­tion sys­tem “ir­ra­tional and in­hu­man”.
