Gran who acts as carer to UK hubby of 27 years is deported
A GRAN has been deported despite being married to a Brit for 27 years and acting as his full-time carer. Irene Clennell, 53, was sent back to Singapore with just £12 after officials ruled she broke immigration rules. Ill husband John, 50, said: “It seemed so ridiculous that it couldn’t happen. But after Irene of Ouston, Co Durham, returned to Singapore to care for her dying parents, officials insisted she stayed too long and revoked her rights. Supporters have raised £35,000 for a fight to bring her home. The Home Office said: “We expect those with no legal right to remain here to leave.” But Lib Dem Brian Paddick branded the immigration system “irrational and inhuman”.
