Jen’s locks of love of love to the sick

Daily Mirror (Northern Ireland) - - SQUARE EYES -

When theatre actress Jennifer Kirby landed the part of nurse Valerie Dyer in Call the Midwife, she was understandably thrilled. Then came the catch – bosses on the BBC One drama needed her to get rid of her thick, elbow-length hair. Jennifer tells us: “I just said, ‘Cut away, take all my hair, shave my head if they wanted’. “I was ready to get rid of it, so I’ve no regrets.” The actress, who featured in the harrowing weekend storyline about female genital mutilation, then donated her tresses to Locks of Love, which makes wigs for people suffering from cancer. “It felt nice that it was going somewhere useful,” she says. We get the feeling she’s certainly going to fit in at Nonnatus House.
