Mcdonnell in U-turn over ‘coup’ claims
JOHN Mcdonnell was forced to row back after claiming Jeremy Corbyn is a victim of a “soft coup”. The Shadow Chancellor said the attempted putsch was “planned, co-ordinated and fully resourced” by forces “intent on destroying Jeremy Corbyn and all that he stands for”. He sounded the alert on the Labour Briefing website after ex-leader Tony Blair’s attack over Brexit. But hours later his spokesman said Mr Mcdonnell no longer stood by the views and “wants us all to focus on party unity” after defeat in the Copeland by-election.
