This shiny, beautiful, perfectly tanned reality show is a perplexing phenomenon.
On the face of it, who really wants to watch a clutch of identikit airheads stress out over a text message or ponder how soon to have sex with each other? Not me to be honest.
But cards on the table, it is strangely gripping – if only to stare in awe at their marvellous abs – and it has captured the attention of the nation.
Perhaps, at a time of political unrest and bad news, it has fulfilled a need for something brainless.
However, we should remember this is a competition, a game show – and one cool couple will tonight pick up a giant cheque for £50,000.
Amid the heartbreak, the angst, the bitching, the falling out, the making up and the getting dumped, a long game has been played. Perhaps they are not so brainless after all...
