Blair’s dream football union
TONY Blair wanted a British football league established to maintain cultural links across the UK following devolution.
The former PM said it was important to keep the “strong ties” that bound England and Scotland.
One of the ex-labour leader’s first acts when he came to power in 1997 was to hold a fresh referendum on Scottish devolution.
He said: “I always thought we should be looking at ways of making sure that people felt a connection.”
