SU­PER­BUGS are mi­cro-or­gan­isms like bac­te­ria, viruses and par­a­sites that have evolved to be­come re­sis­tant to an­tibi­otics.

The World Health Or­gan­i­sa­tion said they can de­velop re­sis­tance through ge­netic changes.

But other fac­tors can ac­cel­er­ate the process, in­clud­ing overuse of an­tibi­otics, poor in­fec­tion con­trol, in­ad­e­quate san­i­tary con­di­tions and in­ap­pro­pri­ate food-han­dling.
