SUPERBUGS are micro-organisms like bacteria, viruses and parasites that have evolved to become resistant to antibiotics.

The World Health Organisation said they can develop resistance through genetic changes.

But other factors can accelerate the process, including overuse of antibiotics, poor infection control, inadequate sanitary conditions and inappropriate food-handling.
