Dog bite ops on kids soar

TWO young children a day need cosmetic surgery to repair dog bites, shocking hospital figures show.

Over the past 10 years the number of kids under five having operations after an attack has soared by 18%.

The increase in those aged five to nine is 29%.

Last year there were 7,518 NHS hospital appointmen­ts for bites, up from 4,699 10 years ago.

Operations range from stitches for bites to much more serious skin grafts.
