Mia’s tribute to ‘hero’ dad killed in fire

Daily Mirror (Northern Ireland) - - NEWS - BY LUCY THORNTON and BEN MCVAY

A GIRL wept as she paid tribute to her “hero” dad and sister in court as their killer got 20 years’ jail.

Burglar Daniel Jones, 29, used petrol to start a fire that claimed the lives of Andrew Broadhead, 42, and daughter Kiera, eight.

Mia, 13, who survived with mum Sara, got special permission to read a statement. She sobbed as she said: “My daddy was the world’s greatest superhero and he was my hero.”

She added that Kiera was “the world’s brightest star and nobody will dull her sparkle”.

Andrew and Kiera died in Wakefield, West Yorks, in October 2016. At Leeds crown court Jones, also of Wakefield, was cleared of murder but was found guilty of manslaughter.
