CSI box sets for com­puter

COM­PUT­ERS have been trained to solve com­plex prob­lems – by watch­ing US crime drama CSI.

Sci­en­tists taught ar­ti­fi­cial intelligence ma­chines to iden­tify a per­pe­tra­tor from their be­hav­iour.

The model suc­ceeded 60% of the time com­pared to hu­mans on 85%. It could play a role in de­vel­op­ing de­vices for real-world jobs.

Dr Lea Fr­ermann, of the Univer­sity of Ed­in­burgh, said it per­formed “en­cour­ag­ingly well”.
