Amazon brew ‘safe as drug’

A PSYCHEDELIC tea used by Amazon healers is a safe medicine to treat depression and alcoholism, a study suggests.

Ayahuasca, which contains a hallucinogenic drug known as DMT, was more effective in tackling booze addiction than LSD.

The study was carried out by Exeter University and University College London. Researcher Dr Will Lawn said: “This provides evidence ayahuasca may be a safe and promising treatment.”
