Augmented reality is the buzzword on every tech company’s lips, and as one of the pioneers of AR technology, Uk-based Blippar is well placed to lead the charge.
The company’s latest app, AR City, uses a combination of augmented reality and computer vision technology to let users access information as they travel around cities.
Users can stand in the street and, holding their iphones in front of them, see virtual information such as street names, building names and local points of interest projected onto a live image of the real world in front of them.
They can also use it for basic navigation, with AR City providing a visualisation of walking routes through cities such as London and San Francisco.
The app is still in beta, so the amount of information available is still fairly limited, but the accuracy of the technology in locating the user and pinpointing nearby landmarks is extremely promising.
