It’s just one PR stunt too many for Sir Bob

-

IF I worked in PR and wanted to say something was bad for you I’d hire Sir Bob Geldof to promote it as wonderful.

As soon as the Boomtown Rat reckons something’s good the public will think the opposite.

He flew to Ireland yesterday to hand back his Freedom of Dublin scroll in protest at Aung San Suu Kyi holding the same honour.

Events in Myanmar are appalling and as Sir Bob says it is genocide – their PM has failed to tackle mass murder.

But instead of harnessing public support to put pressure on politicians his actions will be seen as one more publicity stunt to put himself centre stage.

The pictures of the great humanitarian campaigner handing back his scroll will go around the world – and Sir Bob’s your uncle.

But the Live Aid days are long passed and the general public are less inclined to fall for empty talk from people like him.

Just last year he laughed at concert-goers in Essex for daring to wear clothes from Primark.
