3,300 disabled in OAP housing

AT least 3,300 disabled people aged 18 to 64 are being put up in old people’s care homes, a study today reveals. Lack of specialist housing meant up to one in seven were in the accommodat­ion, the MS Society and the Care and Support Alliance said. It said only half of the 152 local authoritie­s responded to their requests for figures. Michelle Mitchell of the MS Society called the situation “fundamenta­lly wrong”. She said: “This is one symptom of a social care system in crisis.” The charities found 75% of people feared for their future if they needed care themselves.
