Job payout over n-word

A Oil-rig supervisor was awarded £8,000 compensation for racial harassment after overhearing a colleague use the n-word.

Ray Atkinson, who is black, complained when project manager Mark Mccoag said: “All I’ve done is work like a f***ing n ***** .” He apologised.

He quit after Mr Mccoag was not sacked, and sued Cape plc. A Hull tribunal upheld the discrimination claim, awarding Mr Atkinson, of Gorleston-onsea, Norfolk, the payout.
