Auba: I joined to play for Wenger
PIERRE-EMERICK AUBAMEYANG insists under-fire Arsene Wenger is the reason he joined Arsenal.
Wenger is under unprecedented pressure amid accusations that he no longer has the final say on signings and it was new head of recruitment Sven Mislintat who was responsible for signing Aubameyang.
But the Gabon skipper, who joined Arsenal in a record £56million January move, says Wenger was the driving force behind the deal.
Aubameyang said: “I am really happy because I am here because of him. He had the interest in me so I am happy to play for him.”
Wenger has enjoyed back-to-back wins over AC Milan and Watford which has lifted the mood at the Emirates.
Aubameyang is ineligible for the Europa League but feels more settled, saying: “I didn’t play a lot in January. It was difficult to find rhythm but I have worked hard and feel better.”
