SAM ALLARDYCE admits he will be thinking, “That should have been me” when England kick off their World Cup campaign.

Allardyce (left) got England’s qualifying campaign off to a winning start with a 1-0 win over Slovakia in September 2016.

But that proved to be his only game in charge as he lost his job after just 67 days over a newspaper sting.

Gareth Southgate took over as boss and has led England to Russia. Allardyce said: “Of course I do think that should be me.

“I don’t think there is any doubt about that, but that is one of those things I couldn’t control in the end. I think that now I am over that. It’s gone, it’s passed and I wish Gareth all the best.”
