Bri­tain un­der 1,000ft bergs

BRI­TAIN was re­peat­edly sub­merged un­der a mas­sive ice sheet that gen­er­ated ice­bergs nearly a thou­sand feet high, found re­search.

The frozen mass re­peat­edly ex­tended to the cen­tre of the North Sea from 2.5mil­lion years ago – more than a mil­lion years ear­lier than thought.

Re­searchers from the Uni­ver­si­ties of Aberdeen and Manchester an­a­lysed sed­i­ment from be­neath the sea to make the “sig­nif­i­cant break­through”.
