Vow to party after film’s big haul
THE Favourite star Olivia Colman said the film’s team would “get so p*ssed” last night after its royal flush at the BAFTAS.
The black comedy about Queen Anne was a standout success, bagging seven of the 12 awards it was up for.
They included Outstanding British Film and Leading Actress for Colman.
Colman, 45, who has already won Golden Globe and Critics’ Choice awards for her performance, got a standing ovation as she accepted her gong giggling: “We’re gonna get so p*ssed later.”
Rachel Weisz, 48, scooped Best Supporting Actress for the film and said: “I had the greatest luck in playing opposite two of the most glorious women – Olivia Colman and Emma Stone. I salute you. Hats off, ladies.”
Backstage, Rachel added: “I am a bit shell-shocked. It’s a massive, tremendous honour.” Another big winner was Netflix film Roma with Best Film, Best Director, Best Cinematography and Best Film Not in the English Language. Bohemian Rhapsody star Rami Malik took Leading Actor for his turn as Queen star Freddie Mercury. “Thanks lucky stars,” he said, adding that he had been conscious of Britain’s “sacred musical heritage”. He said: “Thank you for including me. Thank you so much to Queen.” The 37-year-old also praised the “greatest outsider of them all”, the “unwavering, unflinching in every which way... Freddie Mercury”. And Rising Star winner Letitia Wright, 25, said she had known depression in her time in the industry, encouraging young actors to “let their light shine”. Meanwhile, Joanna Lumley, who was hosting the Ee-sponsored film awards, joked about the Oscars losing Kevin Hart over a tweets row. The 72-year-old quipped: “Thanks goodness BAFTA has a host. I’m alluding to the fact I’m not on Twitter.”
