RIDGE ARE FLYNN IT TO WIN IT AT DEATH

- Leitrim Antrim BY PHILIP ROONEY

A DRAMATIC finish in Leitrim saw the home side maintain their perfect start to Division four as a Domhnaill Flynn free four minutes into injury-time secured victory over Antrim.

Against the wind, Leitrim started brightly with two points in the opening four minutes but Antrim came roaring back.

Ryan Murray’s fifth minute goal, a wonderful finish, gave an indication of Antrim’s attacking prowess and they added to their lead with four unanswered points.

Murray’s goal was all that separated the sides as Leitrim finished a first half that saw referee Barry Judge issue 10 yellow cards with two late points

Leitrim came flying out of the traps after the break. Darragh Rooney’s point 20 seconds after the restart was followed by a Ryan O’rourke free to leave the minimum between the sides

As the weather deteriorated the standard understandably wasn’t always the highest but that was more than made up for with the drama on show for the crowd estimated to be in the region of 3,500.

Leitrim levelled matters when Rooney (above) pointed with 14 minutes to go as the visitors had to contend with being down to 14 men.

Mark Sweeney’s 10 minutes period in the sin bin had only just come to an end when his team mate Patrick Mcbride was also shown a black card but Leitrim’s numerical advantage wasn’t to last long as Micheal Mcweeney was also shown a black card with eight minutes to go.

Mark Plunkett edged Leitrim in front late on but that was cancelled out in injury time when Patrick Mcbride converted a free before Flynn’s late, late point secure victory for Leitrim.
