1lb 5oz premature tot defies medics
A PREMATURE baby born at just 1lb 5oz has defied “one in a million” odds to survive.
Hanna Rose, 25, had son George at 23 weeks last July, a week before the abortion limit.
He was the length of a hypodermic syringe, his skin was translucent and doctors told Hanna and partner Daniel Bownes, 27, he would die.
George had an op and was hit by sepsis and meningitis – and even had a final blessing.
But after 26 weeks in intensive care, he is back home in Worksop, Notts. Hanna said: “We were told George had a one in a million chance.
“At one point a doctor said we had only hours. It’s a miracle that he’s here with us.”
George, seven months, still only weighs 6lb 2oz and needs an oxygen tank to breathe. Some 75% of his cerebellum, the brain area that controls movement, is damaged and a Gofundme appeal has been set up to pay for physiotherapy.
Hanna added: “He’s proved everyone wrong.”
