GRAY OFF HIS TROLLEY IN RACISM BATTLE

- BY MIKE WALTERS

ANDRE GRAY says the country is still “miles off” winning the battle against racism after a supermarket TV advert sent bigots off their trolleys.

The Watford striker has been a forthright advocate of the #Blacklivesmatter movement and influential anti-racism voice within football.

And Gray was suitably horrified by the backlash from Sainsbury’s Christmas advert on TV, with some shoppers threatening to boycott the chain because it showed a black family celebrating the e festive est e season.

Gray (right) believes education is the key to defeating racists and prehistoric attitudes.

Asked about progress in the fight against racism, Gray ay said: “In terms of the country, I think we are miles off it.

“We are a long way from something changing. We have seen that with the Sainsbury’s advert and the reaction it got.

“But ut it’s t a battle that we have to kee keep fighting. I think it is a about education.”

Gray rejoins Watford’s promotion chase at QPR today, claiming Hornets “beast” Ismaila Sarr will fire them into the Premier League, saying: “He is like our Messi.

“If the club are really serious about getting promoted, he’s the person we need.”
