# There are bound to be con­flict­ing views on the ben­e­fits of hor­mone re­place­ment ther­apy fol­low­ing the lat­est find­ings from the In­sti­tute of Cancer Re­search which have linked it to breast cancer (Mir­ror, Au­gust 23).

But HRT does what it says on the tin – it re­places the hor­mones that a woman’s body grad­u­ally ceases to pro­duce, thereby eas­ing the symp­toms of menopause.

The only way a woman can avoid ex­pe­ri­enc­ing the menopause is to stay on HRT for the rest of her life but I think the ma­jor­ity of doctors would be re­luc­tant to pre­scribe it in­def­i­nitely. Chris­tine Hanks, Wok­ing, Sur­rey
