PEARSON KO’S CLARETS

Daily Mirror - - ENGLAND V PAKISTAN -

Accrington 1 Burnley 0 (after extra time, 0-0 at 90mins)

MATT PEARSON scrambled a last-minute goal to knock out Premier League Burnley.

League Two Accrington knocked out Middlesbrough in 2013 – the last time the Clarets won a game in the competition.

Stanley also beat 2013 finalists Bradford on penalties in the first round and looked like setting up another shoot-out this time.

Burnley boss Sean Dyche made 10 changes to the side that beat Liverpool last Saturday and both sides had late chances to win it in normal time.

Accrington substitute Paddy Lacey, a former carpet fitter, missed his moment of glory when he side-footed wide.

And Burnley substitute Andre Gray (right) was denied by keeper Elliot Parrish to set up extra-time.

But Pearson had the last word at the death.
