Cherries find Marc

Morecambe 1 Bournemouth 2

MARC WILSON’S fine debut finish helped Bournemouth battle past impressive Morecambe in a proper EFL Cup tussle.

Max Gradel gave the Premier League side the perfect start as he beat Barry Roche from the edge of the box after seven minutes.

But Cole Stockton equalised just minutes later for the Shrimps.

Jim Bentley’s team are at the top of League Two and it showed as they played with plenty of character and flair to more than match Eddie Howe’s men.

After half an hour, Benik Afobe’s 20-yard effort was well saved before Tom Barkhuizen thrashed an effort against the post in first-half stoppage time that would have given the home side the lead at the break.

Bournemouth immediately bossed the second half though, and Wilson’s (above) long-range strike capped off a decent debut as he beat Roche from 25 yards with a wonderful effort to finally get the Cherries’ season up
