CASH IN ON POSH BASH

-

I refer to the letter from Amanda Tompkins about Pippa Middleton’s £700,000 wedding (May 23). Although spending a huge sum on a single day might seem grotesque, where does this money go? Straight into our economy, providing jobs, income and profit for someone else to spend in our economy.

It is the excesses of the wealthy that help our economy directly.

Therefore, they should be applauded for their grotesque excesses! Mike Baker, Chichester, West Sussex

I am 82 and one of Mrs May’s people who are “just about managing”. I find it insulting that I would be means tested for the £300 winter fuel allowance if the Tories win. Mrs May appears to assume it’s alright for the House of Lords to get £300 a day to just turn up and sleep!

I feel aggrieved as a pensioner who has worked all his life and has never claimed any benefits whatsoever. Is this her being fair to hard-working people? C Birch, Wellesbourne, Warks

Chelsea captain John Terry got a true hero’s send off at the match against Sunderland with the players forming a guard of honour in the 26th minute to mark his retirement. I, for one, love JT and this was a great gesture for a true blue football legend. Goodbye and good luck, JT, we are going to miss you! Wendy Tilley, Cardiff
