Adams: Seeing my own scary reflection caused breakdown
ENGLAND legend Tony Adams has revealed that looking at his own reflection in a mirror made him have a mental breakdown last year.
The ex-Arsenal defender, 50, kicked the bottle 20 years ago after a decade as an alcoholic.
But he still goes from “one emotional breakdown to the next” and started taking antidepressants last year. He added: “I looked in the mirror and saw my dad [who died in 2002]. I had a beard and glasses and looked more like him than me. It was scary.” Recalling his benders in the late 1980s and 90s, Adams, speaking to the Sunday Times, said: “Self-destruction button. Didn’t like myself, big nose, big ears, gangly, insecurity.” The mirror episode is told in his new book, Sober, which comes 19 years after his first book, Addicted.
