My husband is a Muslim surgeon and he saved many lives after the bomb, people should know

-

THE wife of Muslim surgeon Mohamed Ismail Aly has written a moving letter about how he saved youngsters at the Children’s Hospital in Manchester after the attack. Sobia Aly wrote: “He was the first surgeon to operate on some of the victims throughout Monday night. “I would really like the public to know a Muslim surgeon has been working tirelessly. In fact several Muslim surgeons have been treating victims. “My husband, I and his fellow Muslim medical colleagues were shocked to the core and are absolutely repulsed by the actions of [Manchester bomber] Salman Abedi. I think it’s really important the public know that, yes, the NHS and emergency services have done an amazing job, but behind the scenes an Egyptian Muslim surgeon has dedicated his life to saving children and has taken the lead. Even when Her Majesty came to visit, Mohamed was in theatre.”

Mr Aly, 38, who has treated British soldiers wounded in Afghanistan, started working at the hospital last July. He lives in Hale, Trafford, and is with his family in Newcastle on weekends.

Sobia, 38, added: “I feel so strongly about the events of last week and have been so sad to see the backlash against Muslims. I want the public to know that so many Muslims feel the same pain and hurt as everyone else. I am not deterred from moving to Greater Manchester. ” Mr Aly was on call when news of the attack came. He said: “We have had multiple exercises about major incidents. The plan was well rehearsed.” He operated on his first patient at 1am. He said: “We have not kept an accurate log of how many operations we have carried out but it has been entire days of operating. “The entire work has been for victims of the incident. This has been the toughest working week of my career. There have been injuries you would normally expect to see in a war zone.”
