PAY ROW 2

-

Staff at the Bank of England yesterday began voting on possible strike action over a “derisory” 1% pay rise.

Unite is consulting with members at the central bank, which employs 3,600 people.

The union represents workers in security, catering, legal, human resources and other areas.

The last ballot for strike action was 23 years ago.

Unite regional officer Mercedes Sanchez said: “The bank’s disgraceful snub of low-paid staff stinks of arrogance and represents an organisation thoroughly out of touch with the reality of the pressure staff face meeting their costs of living.”

Bank governor Mark Carney (above) gets a salary of £480,000.
