Head quits over budget squeeze at school

-

A FURIOUS headteacher says he is quitting due to ‘neverending’ cost-cutting.

Oxford-educated Alan Beedie, 53, blamed austerity cuts for his “difficult” decision to go at the end of the academic year.

He recently took Horwich Parish CE Primary School, in Bolton, Greater Manchester, from a “requires improvement” Ofsted rating to “good”.

But new budget proposals mean the school could lose up to £144,849 of funding by 2022.

Mr Beedie, a married dad-oftwo, has been at the 400-pupil school for just under 13 years.

Julia Simpkins, secretary of the Bolton National Union of Teachers, said schools are already making cuts.

She said: “Many primary schools have cut back on everything they can and now have to cut back on people.

“They cannot cut teachers, so they are cutting back on classroom assistants.”
