DONS BOSS IN SNUB TO BLACK CATS

- BY SIMON BIRD

ABERDEEN boss Derek McInnes has left Sunderland feeling humiliated after turning down the manager’s job.

McInnes and No.2 Tony Doherty will now be staying at Pittodrie – in an embarrassing blow to the Wearsiders.

Sunderland were given permission to talk to McInnes (left) on Wednesday after a £1million compensation deal was agreed.

But, like David Moyes, who quit the role, the former Bristol City boss discovered he would have no funds for rebuilding. The Black Cats will renew their search today, with their next potential boss knowing he was second choice and having to deal with an £83m wage bill and debts of £138m.
