WHAT MEN SHOULD KNOW...
Hormone link to asthma
Testosterone helps to protect men from asthma, according to research that may explain why women are more likely to have the condition than men, and have more severe symptoms. Researchers from the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute in Melbourne found that particular immune cells, called innate lymphoid cells, were suppressed in the presence of testosterone. These cells had already been linked to the development of asthma and the result may explain why at puberty, when boys produce a surge of the hormone, their asthma rates fall well behind those of girls the same age.
