In response to the letter from the young woman thinking of eloping to avoid inviting her alcoholic dad to her wedding, I think that would be the best solution all round (Dear Coleen, June 14).

I have been living with an alcoholic for many years and believe it is a serious mental illness that rarely goes away.

A wedding is stressful enough without having to worry about someone falling off the wagon and ruining the day. Just go off together quietly and have a lovely day. Cathy, via email
