School with no rules

- BY MARTIN FRICKER martin.fricker@mirror.co.uk

IT sounds like every child’s dream: a school you attend only three days a week, with no rules, uniforms or exams.

At Green House Education Project, youngsters learn how to “find their passion in life”.

They also discover how to resolve problems, learn yoga and are encouraged to take risks and climb trees with knives.

The school was set up by Anna Robinson and Cindy Adams, qualified teachers.

Cindy said: “There is too much pressure on children in mainstream schools. We do yoga, meditation and mindfulness, and encourage free play. You can’t learn if you are anxious.” The £1,250-a-term school, in South Stoke, Bath, has 23 pupils aged five to 14. Classes are outdoors, or in a yurt in bad weather. Cindy said: “We start each day with circle time. Each child gives a presentation about their passion, from Hebrew traditions to snow leopards.”

Anna added: “While safety is at the core of what we do, we like children to explore. We let them climb trees with whittling knives.”
