I’d like to reply to the young girl whose classmate smokes at 13 (Dear Coleen, June 29).

At school I also had a friend who smoked. We were about the same age and she was always trying to get me to do it, but I always refused, much to her annoyance.

When I saw her 20 years later, she told me she wished she’d never started because now she can’t stop.

I am still a non-smoker and hate the habit – and I hope you’ll be the same. Christine, via email
