Enable at the double

-

IMPRESSIVE Royal Ascot winners Caravaggio and The Tin Man are set to clash in a star-studded Darley July Cup at Newmarket on Saturday.

The Aidan O’Brientrained Caravaggio stretched his unbeaten record to six with a stunning display to land the Commonwealth Cup and will be hot favourite to beat his elders for the first time in the Group One race.

The Ballydoyle handler has also left in fellow three-year-olds Intelligence Cross, Peace Envoy and Pedestal, as well as older horses Cougar Mountain and Washington DC.

The other threeyear-old contender is Commonwealth Cup runner-up Harry Angel.

The Tin Man, trained by James Fanshawe, heads the older brigade after winning the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at the Royal meeting.

He could be reopposed by both the runner-up Tasleet and the third Limato, who landed the July Cup 12 months ago.

Brando, Glass Office, Growl, Intisaab and Mr Lupton complete the line-up. ENABLE is on course to become just the fifth filly in the last 20 years to complete an English Oaks-Irish Oaks double.

John Gosden’s filly was a brilliant winner of the Oaks at Epsom last month and is in prime form ahead of the Irish equivalent at the Curragh on Saturday.

Gosden said: “She is in good shape. We have freshened her up and it’s all systems go for Saturday.’’

Enable will be reunited with jockey Frankie Dettori who is set to return to action after injury on Thursday.
