-

ONE of the last British survivors of Japan’s Death Railway in Burma has died at the age of 102.

John Howes passed away surrounded by his family 75 years after being captured in Singapore.

Aged 100, ex-PoW John, of Gorleston, Norfolk, said: “Four times during the war I should have gone. I’m quite ready to go and see what’s up there.”

Son John, 78, said his dad only spoke of Burma in the past 10 years, adding: “He was my best friend.”
