Boy drowns saving pals
A BOY of 12 drowned after jumping into a river to save two friends.
Owen Jenkins, 12, could not swim but leapt in after the girls got into trouble near a weir on the River Trent, pals said.
His body was found four hours later. The girls are believed to have got out of the river unharmed.
Great-aunt Liz Ryan, 57, hailed Owen from Beeston, Nottingham, a “hero”. Ian Brierly, his headteacher at Chilwell School, said: “It’s an act of selfless courage.”
