Brit, 21, dies in Cambodia river horror
A UK backpacker who could not swim has drowned in southern Cambodia while using an inflatable rubber ring.
Steven Griffiths, 21, had been travelling around Asia since January and was working as a barman.
He and friends were playing in the river outside the High Tide guesthouse in the Kampot region.
But witnesses said Steven, of Weston-superMare, Somerset, slipped through the ring into the rain-swelled currents.
A source said: “Two staff jumped in to help but it was too late. The flow of the water was strong and Steven was washed away.”
His dad Steve was “broken beyond words”, adding: “I am distraught.
“He couldn’t swim. What was he doing in a river?”
